We asked one hundred people: What is the most important invention for humanity?
Undoubtedly, there have been many inventions that have caused fundamental changes in human history. We spoke with our editors and we decided to ask 100 random people from all over the world what the most important invention was.
Have you ever wondered what people think of the most important inventions of all time?
I must say that we got answers beyond our expectations, even with popular answers.
We asked 100 people; What is the most important invention for humanity? As soon as we heard the question, we can imagine that many of you are thinking of these familiar answers. Let’s move on to similar answers we got from 100 people.
In our interview, 16 out of 100 said “Electricity is the important invention ever.”
I don’t know what they taught you in school, but actually electricity is not new. People were aware of the existence of electricity thousands of years ago. However, they did not know how to use it. As the oldest known evidence in history, BC. An article written in 2750 in Ancient Egypt mentioned the shock effect of the electric eel.
Over the past thousands of years, new electricity discoveries have been made continuously, but none of these have turned into viable projects.
In the early 19th century, scientists had a serious interest in electricity. Electrical engineering’s greatest discoveries took place around this time. Many scientists such as Thomas Edison, Galileo, Graham Bell, Nikola Tesla have struggled to apply electricity to modern life. As a result of struggles years ago, we have a large number of products and services today. Thanks scientists!
In our interview, 13 out of 100 people said “Fire”.
Scientists and historians say that the first source of fire in the world was caused by lightning strikes or natural fires. There was no controlled source of fire for much longer than you can imagine.
According to the evidence found in the African continent in the 1980s, it is thought that the first controlled fire source was used 1.42 million years ago. Also, Wikipedia points out that this enclosure has an advantage over re-ignition to protect fire.
No more words are needed. Fire is civilization.
In our interview, 10 out of 100 people said “The Wheel”.
According to historians, the wheel may have originated from the idea of rolling inclined logs.
The earliest record of the invention of the wheel is a picture of the Sumerians around 3500 BC.
The invention of the wheel was once again a big step forward for civilization.
“The Internet is the important invention,” said 9 out of 100 people in our interview.
There is nothing wrong with accepting the Internet as a new invention. It started in the United States in the 1950s and has evolved steadily over the years. In 1989 it reached its present state.
In fact, I guess it would not be wrong to say that it continues to improve even today.
5- Air Conditioning
In our interview, 6 out of 100 people said “The biggest invention of the world is air conditioner”.
What comes to mind when one says Leonardo da Vinci? A large group only knows him as an artist. However, Leonardo da Vinci was an important philosopher, astronomer, architect, engineer, inventor, mathematician, anatomist, musician, sculptor, botanist, geologist, cartographer, writer and painter for that period.
In the 1500s, Leonardo da Vinci was working for the Duke of Milan. The wife of the Duke of Milan wanted to cool her room. Leonardo da Vinci invented a water powered fan. This invention formed the basis of today’s air conditioner.
However, the first scientifically designed example of today’s modern air conditioner appeared in 1902 by Willis H. Carrier.
Millions of people now live where life without air conditioning is really difficult. For example: In 2018, the Kuwait Ministry of Education had to take a short break from education in 30 public schools in the country due to a malfunction in the air conditioning system.
6- Drinking Water
In our interview, 5 out of 100 people answered “Drinking water”.
Water has always played an important role in our lives. It has a great role in the establishment of civilizations, just like fire.
Purifying water and converting it into drinking water BC. It goes back to the year 2000. First the ancient Greeks, then the Egyptians, Hippocrate, Archimedes and others have played a role in purifying water for thousands of years.
The transformation of drinking water into modern systems continued from 2000 BC to the 20th century.
Just like drinking water, 5 out of 100 people answered “Language”.
According to a fairly old report, an examination of five skulls from 400,000 years ago showed that people of that time had the auditory bones necessary to understand what was being spoken. The findings showed that the origin of the language could be traced to perhaps half a million years ago.
The light bulb is recognized as one of the most important inventions in the world. 4 out of 100 people we asked the question gave the light bulb answer.
American inventor Thomas Edison is a name that completely changed the life of the 20th century with his inventions.
Edison is described as one of the most important and prolific inventors in history.
In 1879 Edison invented an electric light bulb. In 1880 he started producing light bulbs that could be used safely at home and sold them for 2.5 dollars. However, in 1878, British scientist Joseph Wilson Swan also invented an electric light bulb. Later, these two scientists decided to join forces to form Edison and Swan Electric Lighting Company.
Many countries today banned the sale of Edison’s invented light bulbs. The rationale is that wasted electricity causes millions of euros of damage and unnecessary carbon dioxide consumption.
In fact, many countries currently recommend energy-saving light bulbs. However, this is a huge mistake. Light bulbs known as “Tarasarruf” contain mercury gas, which is a very dangerous gas. When a mercury-containing light bulb breaks, a special team must come and collect the parts, and that doesn’t make sense.
By using modern LED bulbs instead of using dangerous bulbs, you can do much less damage to the environment and save much more than energy-saving bulbs.
3 out of 100 people say “Medicine” is the important invention in the world.
The first known medical record was BC. It belongs to the year 3000 of the Sumerians. It was written in cuneiform on wet soil by an unknown physician on a 16 cm long 9.5 cm wide tablet. A drug is known to be mentioned. However, its content has not been fully resolved.
2 out of 100 people say the “Alphabet” is the important invention in the world.
In the cave age, people used animal figures to understand and interact with each other.
In your education, you must have learned that the first script was used by the Sumerian priests around 3500 BC and was later developed by the Egyptians.
The first phonetic alphabet was found in Egypt. Except for the Korean Hangul alphabet, all other alphabets are believed to derive from the Egyptian alphabet.
There are 14 different alphabets that continue to be used today.

As a result of this interview, I admit that most of the answers we got from this interview are interesting things. Oddly enough, we noticed that this issue really caught people’s attention.
“What is the most important invention for humanity?” When asking this question, I wasn’t expecting the answer “WD40” or “Blow the baby up”.
The three most popular responses were electric, fire and wheel, respectively. The difference in votes noticed when compared to other answers reminded us once again how valuable these three important inventions are.
